Abstract

The review article addresses the problem of identifying trends in the self-educational activities of academic staff of higher education institutions in the context of educational transformation. The relevance of the research topic is emphasized, which is determined by the necessity of continuous updating of professional knowledge and improvement of lecturers’ qualifications, which is an indispensable condition for ensuring the quality of the educational process and the competitiveness of higher education institutions. It is noted that self-educational activity is an essential component of the professional development of academic staff in such institutions. The purpose of the study is to identify and systematize the current trends in the self-educational activities of academic staff in higher education institutions. Groups of trends are identified according to several criteria: by region of distribution; by duration of existence; by assessable outcomes; by characteristic features; by level of dynamism; by degree of manifestation; and by degree of subordination. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the comprehensive theoretical analysis of the trends and their generalization. It is stated that the self-educational activities of academic staff are significantly influenced by global transformational processes, which determine the emergence and active development of a number of current trends. It is concluded that the identified trends demonstrate the multidirectional nature of self-educational activity and its interconnection with global and situational challenges. The proposed classification, despite its conditional nature, allows for structuring the trends, identifying the main directions of their development, and outlining practical guidelines to enhance the effectiveness of self-educational activities of academic staff of higher education institutions.
