Abstract

The theses examine the implementation of the competency-based approach in teaching foreign language communication in general secondary education institutions. The effectiveness of using speech situations as a tool for developing students’ key competencies is substantiated. The stages of working with speech situations are described, and examples of communicative tasks for students of grades 7–8 are presented. It is proved that situational communication brings learning closer to real-life conditions of foreign language interaction.
