Abstract

Introduction. This article examines the dynamics of transformations in personal narratives during the psychological support of internally displaced persons in the context of war. The war, which has brought destruction, suffering, and mass displacement, has simultaneously posed a number of complex challenges to both society and the state. One of the most urgent issues is that of internally displaced persons, who have faced not only the loss of their homes and familiar ways of life but also the need to adapt to new and often difficult conditions of existence. In this context, narrative practices emerge as an effective tool for constructing and reconstructing personal life experience, enabling individuals to find meaning in the events of a changing everyday reality and to form behavioral strategies aimed at solving essential life tasks. The narrative approach, grounded in the concept of constructing personal experience through storytelling, serves as an effective means of self-reflection and meaning-making. Through personal narratives, internally displaced persons are able to gain deeper insight into their values, motivational orientations, and life goals, forming a coherent sense of self under crisis conditions caused by war. The application of narrative practices in providing psychological support to internally displaced individuals contributes to the development of life competence, facilitates the resolution of key existential challenges, strengthens psychological resilience, and activates processes of self-awareness and the formation of adaptive behavioral strategies in wartime conditions. Purpose. The purpose of this article is to explore the dynamics of personal narratives during the psychological support of internally displaced persons amidst the war in Ukraine. Methods:Analysis of psychological literature on the research problem; comparison, generalization, and interpretation of conceptual principles of narrative psychology; the narrative technique of constructing personal experience “Core Personal Questions” (S. Rudnytska); and narrative analysis. Originality. The scientific novelty of the research findings lies in the characterization of the dynamics of internally displaced persons' narratives during psychological support across three dimensions of life competence development: routine-selective, adaptive, and innovative, within the context of war in Ukraine. It has been established that transitions between the dimensions of life competence development are accompanied by a gradual transformation of personal narratives across five types: structural, temporal, semantic, role-related, and value-based. The key diagnostic indicators of growth include: the emergence of cause-and-effect relationships, the expansion of temporal perspective, the formation of new meanings, an active subjective stance, and conscious personal values. The proposed narrative tools for life competence development provide a foundation for further scientific and methodological advancements aimed at delivering psychological support in various spheres of social practice, including education, psychological counseling, social work, and particularly in the psychological rehabilitation of military personnel. This will facilitate a constructive reinterpretation of traumatic war events. Conclusion. Personal narratives serve as a sensitive indicator of the level of life competence development among internally displaced persons in the context of war.Transformations of personal narratives occur within five key contexts: structural, temporal, semantic, role-related, and value-based.The application of the narrative technology “Core Personal Questions” facilitates the gradual transition of the individual from routine everyday practices to innovative personal meaning-making.The proposed textual criteria enable a qualitative analysis of narrative changes, the identification of the level of life competence, and the development of effective psychotherapeutic strategies for supporting internally displaced persons during the war in Ukraine.Prospects for further research lie in applying the typology of personal narrative transformations as a tool for psychological diagnosis within the process of psychological support, as well as in the active dissemination of narrative technologies across various spheres of social life under the conditions of prolonged war in Ukraine.
