Abstract
Educational reforms are a key component of large-scale, long-term change initiatives implemented by government actions within the education systems of European countries. This article aims to examine the reforms in select European countries aimed at promoting accelerated and high-quality European integration, as well as the development of competitive, modern, and flexible national education systems. It provides a thematic and chronological overview of national reforms and policy developments in certain European countries for the years 2024 and 2025. Each year, hundreds of reforms are introduced across various school systems, addressing aspects such as curriculum, pedagogy, governance, and technology. The article outlines the general education strategy and key objectives that span the entire education system. It also examines the structure of the education reform process and identifies the key decision-makers involved. Since 2025, educational reforms have been part of comprehensive, long-term change programs initiated by governments within European education systems. Current reforms and political changes are organised by thematic areas that primarily correspond to different education levels, including secondary and higher education. The initiatives identified emphasise the need to ensure the quality of education, prioritise digital integration, and prepare graduates with the competencies required for the European labour market. In Poland, the reforms are particularly extensive, focusing on internationalisation, strengthening the connection between science and the economy, offering open online courses, and standardising education. Latvia's educational sector is centered on workforce stability and developing digital skills. In higher education reform, particular attention is given to digital transformation, inclusive education, and the social dimension of education. This includes addressing issues such as student mental health, the role of women in science, promoting subjects in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and enhancing the quality of the educational process. The educational reforms in Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania in 2025 demonstrate coordinated efforts aimed at modernising their systems and aligning them with European standards.
