Abstract

The article explains the essence of the concept of reading literacy as a key competence of education seekers. The emphasis is on the insufficient level of formation of reading literacy of Ukrainian schoolchildren according to the results of РИСА-218, which are an important marker of the quality of Ukrainian education and the readiness of students for effective self-realization in the modern world. The problematic aspects of the formation of reading literacy are highlighted. The scientific discourse of the specified issue is considered. The features of the formation of reading literacy of students of general secondary education institutions with classes/groups with instruction in the languages ​​of national minorities are determined. The results of an online survey of teachers of language and literature courses of general secondary education institutions are analyzed, and conclusions are drawn about the level of awareness of teachers about the essence of reading literacy, their readiness to overcome the main challenges in the process of its formation, and the quality of didactic support for the formation of reading literacy. Ways are proposed to increase the effectiveness of the formation of reading literacy of students of general secondary education institutions in literature courses.
