Abstract

Relevance. In the context of full-scale war, digital transformation, and the emergence of Industry and Society 5.0, Ukrainian professional education is undergoing profound changes aimed at preparing specialists capable of innovative, adaptive, and socially responsible professional activity. There is a growing demand for graduates who possess not only deep subject-matter expertise but also transversal competencies—such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication skills, and emotional intelligence—that enable them to thrive in uncertain and rapidly evolving environments. To meet these challenges, modern pedagogical approaches and technologies that integrate theory with practice, foster active learning, and stimulate creative potential are essential. Objective. To explore contemporary approaches and technologies for the professional training of students in vocational higher education, taking into account the demands of wartime and postwar recovery, digitalization, and the evolving labor market. Methods. Theoretical analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature; synthesis of scientific approaches to educational modernization; systematization of best practices in implementing innovative teaching methods; comparative analysis of competence-based, practice-oriented, student-centered, problem-based, and project-based learning models. Results. The study confirms that effective professional training is achieved through the integration of multiple complementary approaches: competence-based, practice-oriented, problem-based, project-based, and student-centered learning. Among the most impactful pedagogical technologies are problem-based learning (which develops critical thinking and self-directed problem-solving), the project method (which fosters research, collaboration, and presentation skills), dual education (which bridges academic knowledge with real-world workplace experience), and interactive techniques such as case studies, business simulations, and role-playing games. These methods collectively enhance students’ professional, cognitive, and socio-emotional competencies, preparing them for the dynamic requirements of modern industries. Conclusions. Contemporary approaches and technologies in professional education serve as a cornerstone for ensuring high-quality training under conditions of war and postwar transformation. Their systematic implementation cultivates flexible, creative, responsible, and critically minded professionals who are not only job-ready but also capable of contributing meaningfully to Ukraine’s recovery, sustainable development, and integration into global economic and educational systems.
