Abstract
Ukrainian social work is evolving to meet wartime challenges, gaining unique experience in responding to the acute social crises stemming from the Russian-Ukrainian war. Simultaneously, it aligns with the core principles of international social work and draws upon the established practices of European countries in the field of youth social work. This article presents the results of a comparative study of the features and current problems in youth social work in Great Britain and Ukraine. The analysis is based on defined parameters, including: the definition of youth (age limits); youth policy and regulatory frameworks; youth work; and current problems in youth social work. The study utilizes both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The primary research methods include: a comparative analysis of foreign and Ukrainian sources on social work, materials from official portals of international organizations, regulatory documents, analytical reports, and empirical research findings; as well as the systematization and synthesis of data. The results of the comparative study of the features and current problems in youth social work in Great Britain and Ukraine can be summarized as follows: youth social work is a vital field in both countries, governed by international and national regulations. In the social work of both Ukraine and Great Britain, youth organizations play a significant role by participating in the implementation of youth policy. At the same time, there are considerable differences between the social work in the two countries. The broader definition of youth in Ukraine determines the specific nature of its social work. The current problems in youth social work have areas of overlap, but also differ. Great Britain and Ukraine recognize the importance of youth social work and direct their efforts towards solving current problems in this field, such as: youth mental health; youth employment and education; unemployment and economic issues; social integration of youth with special needs and other vulnerable groups; civic participation; and prevention of substance abuse. However, the specific manifestations of these problems and the resources available to address them vary significantly. Furthermore, the main distinction is that social work in Ukraine is responding to the significant challenges caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war.
