Abstract
The paper is devoted to defining the role of scientific digital libraries in the context of the development of the information society. In a society where information and the information economy play a leading role, people need to have access to information, generate, update and use it, and develop their lifelong learning abilities through information literacy skills. That is why libraries occupy an important place in the information society, as they are the institutions where information is collected, summarized, disseminated, compiled and distributed. Libraries play a vital role in all of the above functions and should educate the people that the information society needs. In the information society, knowledge affects all segments of society through technology. The use of new methods of management and automation is a feature of this era. Nowadays, society uses information and digital technologies to achieve its goals, and citizens use them to create new opportunities for communities and organizations. In this context, some of the features of the information society are as follows: massive growth and activity, globalization and speed, specialization and multidisciplinarity, economic value and social division. The changing status of information is another characteristic of the information society. The need for information abilities for the development of lifelong learning is the reason for the emergence of information literacy Thus, libraries play an important and unique role in the education of society. Modern digital libraries should become not only repositories of information, but also active centers of learning, collaboration, and innovation.
