Abstract

The integration of Ukraine into the European community has expanded the prospects for its further development as a democratic state. An important step toward strengthening democracy in our country is the democratization of society, which involves the comprehensive implementation of socially oriented reforms aimed at improving the well-being of the population. The democratization process necessitates a deep analysis of its key aspects, particularly the socio-psychological dimension. This article focuses on the issue of individual psychological well-being in a democratic society. Psychological well-being is considered as an integrative phenomenon that reflects the specifics of an individual’s psychological functioning within the social environment, their internal integrity, potential for personal development, and is manifested in their satisfaction with themselves and their lives. It is established that the level of psychological well-being is determined by a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. Biological factors are related to a person’s physical and mental health; psychological factors concern their individual perception of reality; and social factors pertain to the objective conditions of their life within society. Living in a democratic society promotes individual psychological well-being due to its focus on stable and fair social development based on democratic values. The formation, observance, and preservation of democratic values in society expand opportunities for personal growth, active social participation, and the achievement of both individual and societal well-being. At the same time, a high level of psychological well-being among citizens is an important socio-psychological condition for the democratization of society, as education, social inclusion, and the development and realization of personal potential contribute to the entrenchment of democratic principles in social life.
