Abstract
The problem of identifying and diagnosing giftedness among senior pupils has acquired particular significance in the context of launching the pilot stage of implementing profile education in lyceums, the purpose of which is to create conditions for the competency-based development of senior pupils and their ability to apply knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to solve practical problems in the modern dynamic environment. In this context, giftedness serves as a key factor in a senior pupil’s life choice, as it determines their natural abilities, inclinations, and potential opportunities, influencing professional self-determination and the formation of readiness for self-realization. The article emphasizes the importance of developing key competencies, critical thinking, creative self-expression, and cultural identity of senior pupils through language and literature education. It highlights the objective difficulties of the lyceum educational process in wartime conditions — fragmented learning, educational losses, and emotional imbalance of pupils — which determine the need to diagnose the potential of giftedness. This diagnosis goes beyond traditional assessment and becomes a strategic tool for identifying the inner resources of the individual that require pedagogical support. Giftedness is considered a multidimensional phenomenon closely related to cognitive motivation, creativity, intellectual potential, the ability for independent thinking, self-development, and value-based self-determination — the factors that determine the professional choice of senior pupils. Under the conditions of profile education, special importance is attached to creating an educational environment that promotes the development of individual abilities and the formation of readiness for self-realization. The purpose of the article is to provide a theoretical justification of the role of giftedness as a key factor in the life choice of senior pupils and to analyze effective ways of its pedagogical support in the context of profile education.
