Abstract

The paper analyses strategic mechanisms for professional development of teachers as a key factor in the transformation of school education in the context of European integration processes and the requirements of the European Education Area (EEA). The aim of the study was to identify institutional tools that ensure effective harmonisation of national professional development systems with EEA standards. It is emphasised that the professional development of teachers is a key element in achieving the goals of European integration. It is stressed that in order to achieve the goals of European cooperation, teachers must act as agents of change and possess cross-cutting competences (critical thinking, intercultural communication). Particular attention is paid to the need to develop digital competences as a fundamental factor in ensuring the quality and competitiveness of education. Three key mechanisms for integrating EQF requirements into professional development are identified and analysed: micro-credentials, institutionalisation of learning communities, and mobility (Erasmus+, eTwinning). It is concluded that the vision of a competent teacher as an agent of change requires the development of a comprehensive policy at the EU level and the systematic integration of flexible professional development tools.
