Abstract
The content of the article raises the problem of the role of the individual in the history of the development of pedagogical science and reveals the significance of the scientific heritage of Professor A. Y. Syrotenko for the science of geography teaching methods and the process of textbook creation. The author of the article analyses the scientific heritage of Professor Anatoly Syrotenko and introduces its influence on the present. It is also considered that in the work of the famous scientist, the idea of the importance of the school subject geography for the formation of the student's worldview occupies a decisive place. The promising approaches developed by the researcher to expand the didactic functions of the school subject of geography, the application of the geographical principle in the formation of knowledge, and the scientifically substantiated combination of various didactic aspects in the study of geography at school are demonstrated. The role of the scientist in the development of educational state documents is also determined: The State Standard, the Concept of Geographical Education, curricula, textbooks, etc. Attention is focused on the decisive contribution of A. Y. Syrotenko as the author of several generations of innovative educational books, textbooks, and methodological recommendations containing cognitive material and the development of modern textbook creation. The feasibility of further historical and methodological research into the scientific, pedagogical and creative activities of Professor A. Y. Syrotenko and their implementation into practical use in the theory and methodology of teaching geography and educational practice in geography has been determined.
