Abstract
The theses focus on the formation of a conscious reader, the organization of independent reading of primary school students with instruction in the languages of national minorities. In primary school, the foundations of reading, proper reading activity, reading interests, and reading culture are laid, which is subsequently reflected in the subsequent stages of a student's education. The development of independent reading skills is carried out not only in extracurricular reading lessons, but also during Ukrainian language and reading lessons. The theses present the results of a survey of students in schools with instruction in the languages of national minorities regarding reading preferences.
