Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the phenomenon and culture of historical memory as the foundation of national-patriotic education in higher education institutions of Ukraine in the period 1991–2009. The phenomenon of historical memory as a factor in the formation of national identity is analyzed. The theoretical justification and important functions of historical memory for strengthening national self-consciousness and the formation of historical memory in the training of future Ukrainian teachers in the conditions of Russian aggression are considered. The significance and role of historical memory in the system of social values, its influence on the formation of state policy, national symbols are investigated. It is determined that historical memory and historical consciousness form a historical culture, which, on the one hand, acts as a powerful means of national self-identification, and on the other promotes understanding between representatives of different national projects. The components that contributed to the formation of a holistic system of values and patriotic identity of students are highlighted. Historical memory contributes to the formation of the historical consciousness of young people, where the basis is knowledge, truth, views, ideas, understanding of the connection between the past and the present, traditions and experience of different generations. The regulatory framework, curricula, practical methods of educating student youth, as well as the importance of cultural heritage and the formation of value orientations are considered. It is proven that the culture of historical memory has become a key component of the formation of national identity and civic activity of students. Regional features of the implementation of programs show that a comprehensive approach that combines lecture courses, practical activities and participation in public life ensures the effectiveness of patriotic education. The integration of cultural, historical and militarypatriotic aspects forms a conscious attitude towards history and the state, which is the basis for the development of a responsible citizen. It is noted that based on the patterns of the development of the past, historical memory should provide answers to the problems of the present and predict its development for future generations. A comparative analysis of patriotic education programs is conducted and the main trends in their development, the integration of the military-patriotic component, and the role of public organizations are identified. The article contains specific examples of educational programs, methodological structure, and implementation strategies.
