Abstract

The article examines the diversity of approaches to national-patriotic education in higher education institutions of Ukraine in the period 1991–2004. It is determined that national-patriotic education is the basis for the formation of the self-awareness of a citizen capable of protecting the sovereignty of his state, preserving national values, historical memory and cultural identity. The key role of patriotic education in the formation of the civic and national identity of future teachers is emphasized. The importance of the historical and cultural background in the education of conscious citizens in the academic environment is emphasized.
