Abstract

The article identifies the role of humanitarian disciplines in the formation of national consciousness of Ukrainian schoolchildren in the period from 1991 to 2004. It reveals what content of school programs underwent transformations, and whether it corresponded to changes in the political, social and cultural context of Ukrainian society. The focus is on humanitarian disciplines that performed not only an informative, but also a distinct educational function. It is proven that in the early 2000s, educational reforms contributed to the strengthening of the institutionalization of patriotic education of national values, national consciousness of Ukrainian students.
