Abstract
The methodological guidelines present theoretical and practical aspects of designing research tasks in history for lower secondary school students. The paper explains the concepts of “research task” and “learning-research task,” highlighting their differences in purpose, structure, and complexity. A five-component model of a research task is proposed, which includes problem formulation, selection of sources, execution algorithm, expected outcomes, and reflection. Special attention is given to methodological requirements for task formulation and to clear assessment criteria that ensure transparency and foster students’ reflective thinking. The guidelines provide examples of integrated quests, mini-projects, and tasks employing digital tools, adapted to the interests of today’s learners. The authors emphasize the role of such tasks in developing research competence, critical and systemic thinking, as well as the ability to work with diverse historical sources. The importance of combining research and learning-research tasks in the teaching process is underlined, enabling step-by-step competence development. The materials are intended for history teachers, methodologists, and curriculum developers.
