Abstract

The author's field of view is methodological problems of ethnopolitical science. The author examines the issues regarding the concepts of "nation-state" and "state-nation" and their relationship with nation-building and state-building. The author touches on the problems of the nation and civil society. Civil society, by definition, is outside political power and includes only non-political relations. In many states, along with the dominant culture, others also develop, nourishing the general culture of the entire country. Civil society creates the prerequisites for the successful functioning of various forms of national self-consciousness. The view of the nation as a generated cultural formation helps to connect it with civil society. But civil society develops, it must be connected with the nation. We should also not forget that one of the main subjects of human development is, and probably will be for a long time to come, ethnic communities, which, and this should be especially emphasized, consist of individuals and social groups with common and separate, personal interests and values. Ultimately, ethnopolitics must always take this into account.
