Abstract

Linytskyi Petro Ivanovich studied the problems of the history of philosophy, religion, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics and literary criticism. He worked on the main problems of philosophy, recognized the existence of two principles - matter and spirit; he considered man as the unity of his material body and spirit; he believed that throughout the history of philosophy the theoretical struggle between idealism and realism continues; he gave an important role in the education of man to the spiritual factor. He advocated the need for moral improvement of the individual and society. He published scientific works in the journals "Faith and Reason" and "Proceedings of the Kyiv Theological Academy". The scientist's philosophical legacy includes about 20 fundamental works and a large number of articles. He saw the main task of religion in educating people, supporting in them a sense of duty, love for truth. He noted a certain contradiction in Orthodoxy in the requirement of constant restriction of personal consciousness and personal subjective freedom. In the work of P. Linytsky, the tendency to consider education as a special philosophical subjectivity was reflected, which later led in the West to the formation of a new philosophical discipline - the philosophy of education and upbringing. Among the works devoted to educational issues: journalistic essays "The Educational Significance of Philosophy" (1872), "Review of Philosophical Teachings" (1874), "A Guide to the Study of Questions of Philosophy (Elements of a Philosophical Worldview)" (1892), "On Upbringing" (1908), which had an educational and national focus, where the center of educational efforts was morality, and the school was considered as one that should teach a person to self-improve throughout life.
