Abstract

The article is dedicated to the study of the life and multifaceted activities of Dmytro Cherednychenko (1935-2021), an outstanding Ukrainian educator, writer, translator, and public figure. Based on materials from the archives of the Pedagogical Museum of Ukraine, the research comprehensively analyzes his contributions to pedagogy, literature, and translation. Special attention is paid to Cherednychenko's educational work, particularly his development of textbooks for children, including the famous primer “Materynka” (1992), as well as his founding of the Ukrainian studies newspaper “Zhiva Voda” (1991-2002). The article thoroughly examines his literary legacy, which includes children's works, as well as adult poetry and prose collections like “Otava” (1966) and “Batyha” (2002). A significant part of the study focuses on Cherednychenko's translation activities, for which he recei- ved numerous awards, including Lithuania's Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas (1996). The article emphasizes his role in shaping Ukrainian national consciousness through educational and literary work, highlighting how his pedagogical methods and creative output fostered Ukrainian identity, particularly among younger generations. The research utilizes extensive archival materials from the Pedagogical Museum of Ukraine, including textbooks, personal items, photographs, and manuscripts, to provide a comprehensive portrait of Cherednychenko as both an educator and artist. The study also considers the contemporary relevance of his legacy in the context of modern Ukrainian education and culture, especially during wartime challenges. The article concludes by underscoring the importance of preserving and studying the heritage of figures like Cherednychenko as a means of strengthening national identity and transmitting cultural values to future generations.
