Abstract
The article discusses the topical issue of integrating research and reading competencies in the context of primary school education as an important aspect of modernizing the educational process in accordance with the requirements of the New Ukrainian School. The interdependent nature of these competencies and their decisive influence on meeting the modern educational needs of younger students, who are growing up in conditions of rapid social change and information overload, are substantiated. An analysis of educational regulatory documents, in particular the State Standard for Primary Education (2018) and model curricula, makes it possible to define reading competence as a multifaceted personal quality. Its development requires students to master a wide range of cognitive processes. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the growing importance of developing research competence in primary school pupils as a necessary condition for their readiness for lifelong learning and effective interaction with the information space. The structure of reading and research competencies is analyzed in detail, their common components and key points of intersection in the process of formation are identified, including analytical and interpretive, critical and transformational skills, communicative and metacognitive skills, as well as the formation of scientific speech. Based on the analysis of psychological and pedagogical research, the features of the cognitive development of younger schoolchildren are revealed, such as the integration of visual-imaginative memory with speech and thinking, the development of verbal-logical memory and attention, which are decisive for the formation of both competencies. The leading principles of the integrated formation of reading and research competencies in primary school are outlined. Methodological recommendations are presented for organizing the educational process aimed at the purposeful development of these competencies in their interaction, in particular through the use of certain teaching methods and techniques. The propaedeutics of scientific speech is noted as an important aspect of the formation of research competence in younger schoolchildren, which ensures the gradual mastery of scientific style and enrichment of vocabulary. Examples of educational tasks that contribute to the simultaneous development of reading and research competencies are given, taking into account the needs and abilities of gifted children.
