Abstract

One of the challenges facing domestic universities is to increase their competitiveness in the European and global space of higher education. Given that the results of scientific work are a key indicator for universities to enter world rankings, an urgent task in the higher education system of Ukraine is to create conditions for conducting high-quality research at universities. Solving the problem of improving the quality of research at domestic universities actualizes the problem of developing and using new research management mechanisms, which involves, in particular, an analysis of the best practices of leading European and global universities. Given the stable leadership of UK universities in the European and global space of higher education, it is worth analyzing the experience of this country in the problem of implementing research governance at universities, in particular, an analysis of key documents used in universities for effective research management. The aim of the article is to analyze the experience of research governance in universities in the UK for the implementation of best practices in the higher education system of Ukraine. To achieve this goal, methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, systematization of scientific and Internet sources were used, which made it possible to analyze key documents for the implementation of research governance in universities in the UK. The application of the generalization method made it possible to draw conclusions about the results of the study. The article substantiates the relevance of the analysis of the experience of the UK in terms of ensuring conditions for research governance that promotes excellent research. Key documents of the European and national levels used in the development of the university Research Governance Framework are analyzed, and their main provisions are characterized: criteria for assessing research excellence, principles and standards of research activities, requirements for researchers in universities.
