Abstract
The article presents a theoretical analysis of the psychological mechanisms underlying the professional transformation of educators in crisis conditions. It is argued that contemporary challenges – war, pandemic, socio-economic instability – radically alter the context of educational activity, provoking deep shifts in the structure of teachers’ professional identity. In such circumstances, professional change is not viewed as mere adaptation, but as a professional transformation—a holistic process of rethinking values, meanings, motivation, and pedagogical practices, requiring the activation of internal personal resources. The concept of “psychological mechanisms” is clarified as dynamic mental formations that ensure the individual’s ability to restructure in the face of crisis. The key mechanisms that facilitate educators’ professional renewal are identified: reflection, self-regulation, motivation for development, cognitive flexibility, meaning-making, and social support. A model of the psychological mechanisms of professional transformation in crisis has been proposed, which includes five stages: crisis trigger, reflective reassessment, meaning construction, strategic renewal, and integration of change. The structure of the model incorporates two levels of factors that modulate the transformation process: individual psychological (reflectivity, cognitive flexibility, emotional resilience, intrinsic motivation for growth, personal meanings and values, professional identity) and socio-institutional (leadership support, school policy adaptability, access to resources and professional learning, professional community, and cultural-organizational climate). The findings have practical value for the development of psychological support programs for educators in times of crisis and may be applied within the system of postgraduate pedagogical education.
