Abstract
The paper actualizes the significance of the history of education as a means of preserving and restoring historical memory in the context of decommunization, derussification and desovietization. It identifies promising directions for historical and educational studies under the conditions of the war and the post-war recovery of Ukraine. It has been argued that russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has led to rethinking of the history of Ukrainian education, particularly during the imperial and soviet periods. At the same time, there is an urgent need to reflect on the changes in education during the war and in the post-war recovery of Ukraine in the historical context. The role and potential of biographical research conducted by V. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Educational Library of Ukraine have been revealed. The paper proves the importance of the history of education in shaping the pedagogical worldview and value system of future educators, as well as their professional competencies. The potential of the history of education for fostering national Ukrainian and civic identity in future educators (teachers, lecturers, researchers) has been substantiated.
