Abstract
The reform of education in Ukraine is based on the implementation of competency-based approach with the involvement of international experience in the field of creating European space. Currently, the system of modern world and domestic medical education highlights new requirements and standards for the existing level of readiness of future junior medical specialists for professional activity. Therefore, there is a need to train new-type nurses who have the necessary high professional level and are able to work in modern conditions and possess a set of competencies, in particular environmental, which represents a comprehensive system of environmental knowledge obtained in the process of training, in unity with the skills and abilities to act adequately in relevant life situations, the ability to foresee and predict the consequences of their environmentally oriented activities in the environment. Analysis of the practice of modern environmental education of students of professional medical colleges has revealed certain contradiction, the essence of which is that the formation of environmental competence has general pedagogical, socio-cultural status and requires a comprehensive approach in an educational institution, while in fact the implementation of these tasks is narrowed to subject-centric format within the course, in particular «Fundamentals of Ecology and Preventive Medicine» and is limited to theoretical training, disconnected from practical, professional, specific environmental activities in the professional sphere and everyday life.
