Abstract

The article provides examples of experience in identifying creatively and communicatively gifted students in schools around the world. The experience of identifying, developing and training gifted students in the United States is separately considered. A review and analysis of training programs to support gifted students in the US public schools is conducted. An overview and explanation of the significance and difference between the two components of the average grade point average (GPA) ‒ weighted and unweighted, which can be of decisive importance in the further education and development of gifted students is made. The difference between the weighted and the unweighted average score (GPA) and the algorithm for selecting gifted students in the university based on the rating, the weighted GPA and the overall academic performance are explained. The fundamental works of world scientists on the identification and development of giftedness in schools around the world are presented. A review of the educational contexts of such countries as Australia, Austria, Finland, France, Greece, Norway, Scotland, Sweden, Turkey and the United States is conducted. Certain characteristics of highly gifted students are outlined. Various approaches of researchers to the identification of creative and communicative giftedness in world practice are presented, including an approach to the formation of the level of giftedness of students from the point of view of a new dimension of creative pedagogical knowledge. A number of criteria for diagnosing types of giftedness are identified. The article analyzes the approaches of Western specialists working on the issue of identifying and supporting creatively gifted students at different stages of their development in order to maximize their talents, which can play an important role in the development of a gifted individual.
