Abstract
In the 21st century, digitalization and technological progress are taking place with high intensity, resulting the transformations of professional standards and dynamism of requirements updating for specialists in most areas of human activity. A modern person needs to regularly familiarize with professional innovations, update knowledge, skills and abilities in order to maintain professional competitiveness. According to the report of the World Economic Forum in Davos (2023), the formation of the ability and willingness for lifelong learning (curiosity and lifelong learning) is defined as one of the priority tasks of education in 2023–2027. Study of the educational activity phenomenon; search for the most effective ways of its planning, organization and implementation; improvement of teaching and learning processes are classic issues of pedagogy. In general, in the European educational space, the study of educational activity evolved within two scientific approaches: cognitive-psychological (D. Norman, J. Piaget and W. Lee, R. Mayer, M. Radovan, etc.) and socio-cultural (B. Bernstein, J. Bruner and S. Gleasure, A. Pirrie, E. Thoutenhoofd, R. Vandenberghe, etc.). In domestic pedagogy, the development of the educational activity issues is carried out on the psychological basis of scientific schools of H. Kostyuka, O. Skrypchenko and S. Maksimenko. The article presents the analysis, systematization and generalization of scientific views regarding the modern understanding of the essence and content of lifelong learning competence as the basis of a person’s professional success in the conditions of the information society. Attention is focused on the expediency of defining this concept as (1) the ability and willingness of a person to steadily (continuously) acquire and improve key and professional competencies, (2) a means of adaptation of a modern person to the dynamic conditions of the information society, which is formed taking into account the individual cognitive characteristics of a person and socio-cultural context in which educational activity takes place.
