Abstract
The formation of students' research competencies in geography as a scientific problem is considered in the context of the educational process in wartime and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine with integration into the European community. For students of basic secondary education institutions, it is important to learn to identify research problems, study nature independently or in a group, establish cause-and-effect relationships, and present the results of their work. School geography education helps to deepen the understanding of modern challenges or risks, such as climate change, water resource management, food security, the search for new energy sources, irrational use of natural resources, and urbanization. The paper classifies students' research competencies from the applied (practical) side of this component, such as the ability to measure, record results, assess the accuracy of measurements, group objects, phenomena, or processes, explain them, and use scientific knowledge to solve problems. A scientific novelty is the inclusion in the methodology for forming research competencies of students in geography of familiarizing students with a group of critically important minerals of the energy transition, which is an extremely important methodological issue in teaching geography in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
