Abstract

In the article dedicated to the fact and practices of volunteering in Ukraine, its significant role in responding to the ongoing aggression and genocide of Ukrainians by the Russian Federation is highlighted. It is shown that volunteering serves not only as a powerful "shoulder of support" but also as a distinct psychological phenomenon that requires the professional attention of social sector specialists. Based on a large-scale empirical study of the psychology of healthy lifestyles (H.L.) of Ukrainians, conducted by the Social Psychology of Personality Department at the Institute for Social and Political Psychology of the NAES of Ukraine from September 2023 to January 2024, we analyzed six practices (forms, types) of volunteer activity that we had defined and established their ranking by prevalence: 1) "donating funds to collectings"; 2) "providing items and food"; 3) "producing necessary goods"; 4) "offering own professional services free of charge"; 5) "engaging in organizational activities"; 6) "providing assistance directly on-sites (at the facilities)." We analyzed correlations among these practices and their socio-demographic characteristics, which allowed us to do several hypotheses regarding the socio-psychological peculiarities of Ukrainian volunteering during the current Russian-Ukrainian war.
