Abstract
The article presents the justification of STEM education as an educational field. It is noted that during the evolutionary path of the development of STEM education, it was characterized in various manifestations: as an approach, as a subject, as a method, as a pedagogical technology, as a didactic system.Recently, especially when substantiating the content of specialized secondary education of the New Ukrainian School, it is proposed to consider it as an educational field within which the content of a complex of knowledge fields is realized, on the basis of which key competences are formed that connect scientific thinking and project-technological activity.In this sense, it represents a holistic systemic formation of interrelated educational components, thanks to which the acquired theoretical knowledge becomes a tool for their practical implementation in life situations. Thanks to this interpretation, the STEM field acquires new qualitative features that increase the synergy of the content of modern secondary education.
