Abstract
Ukraine's state independence is a natural result of the armed struggle of the Ukrainian people for their independence, which has been going on for at least four centuries with some interruptions. Such a long experience has formed the appropriate culture of military affairs, as well as the culture of the attitude of the military to the civilian population and the culture of support by citizens of their army. In the history of mankind, there have often been cases when the military directly took power into their own hands. However, as a rule, this led to negative consequences for the entire society and for the military as well. At the same time, when the military forms its own culture of chivalry, not claiming political power, but creating models of civic virtues. This helped to strengthen statehood. An important role in the development of the culture of military affairs is played by the growing awareness of the military of their civic mission. Not only as defenders of the Motherland, but also as the bearer of a true civic ethos that guides society towards purging social pathologies such as corruption, the dominance of criminals and mafia structures, the shadow economy, etc. Mutual inclusiveness of the military and civilians is necessary in strengthening the democratic foundations of the Ukrainian state. Scholars and educators can be involved in research and development of military culture in Ukraine as a reliable foundation for its independence.
