Abstract

The key to holistic vocational education and training is a shared understanding between school teachers, workplace instructors and learners of the social and professional purpose and core tasks of the profession. Such an understanding gives meaning to the content of education and strengthens learners’ ability to identify with their calling. Regular joint discussions of core vocational tasks are accompanied by a systematic linking of theory and tasks, both at school and in the enterprise, as well as assessment criteria with core vocational tasks. Cooperation between schools and enterprises based on these principles is crucial for the relevance and quality of vocational education programmes based on upper secondary school education.
