Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of global trends in the implementation of automated library information systems (ALIS), in particular, Koha ALIS. The article shows that ALIS are complex information systems, the process of development, testing and implementation of which is long and takes several years. It is determined that today it is usually carried out with the participation of large teams of programmers who work closely with library professionals. The main requirement for ALIS is to support modern international standards, which makes it possible for them to interact with each other and standardizes technologies for working with them. Koha ALIS is a comprehensive web-based open source software solution based on Web 2.0 technology that uses advanced system software and advanced software technologies. The authors analyze the distribution of Koha ALIS in libraries around the world and shows that Koha is one of the most popular library information systems. Based on the report of the international community on the use of Koha ALIS, it is found that the level of satisfaction with Koha ALIS services has been growing over the past 15 years. It has been determined that today Koha is the most popular open source library system in the world and is a promising alternative to proprietary LIS, such as IRBIS and others.
