Abstract

The article highlights the author's approach to justifying the significance of the contribution of the outstanding scientist-historian, public figure, patriot Mykhailo Hrushevskyi to the matter of establishing the status of the Ukrainian language as a separate, independent language of a separate people on the territory of the Russian Empire in the first decades of the 20th century. Contextually, the presentation of the material is connected with the contemporary problem of mother tongue education of ordinary Ukrainian bread workers.
