Abstract

The article describes the problem of the development of spelling competence of students of higher education in the context of the implementation of the norms of the new edition of the Ukrainian orthography of 2019, defines the theoretical and practical ways of improving spelling competence and the development of students' professional speech. The modern education system is aimed at the development of a linguistic personality capable of performing speech activities with the help of the Ukrainian language in various styles and spheres of communication. Fluency in the state language is a necessary condition for the implementation of the pedagogical paradigm of continuous language education, because it ensures the development of communicative competence and language awareness, is the basis of self-realization, spiritual and intellectual growth of the individual. Changes in the modern Ukrainian literary language were declared in the current Ukrainian orthography in 2019. That is why consideration of the development of the spelling competence of higher education students, assimilation of the codified spelling changes of the current Ukrainian spelling, and the formation and improvement of the spelling competence of higher education students is relevant today. In the research process, the following methods were used: analysis of philological and linguistic didactic scientific sources; current Ukrainian spelling; state documents, programs, textbooks and educational and methodological guides; design and modeling of methods and techniques for the development of spelling competence of students of education. The use of active traditional and innovative teaching methods and techniques is productive for updating spelling knowledge and improving spelling abilities and skills. In the system of higher education, it is important to ensure students' motivational readiness to comply with the norms of the current Ukrainian spelling, to form a clear understanding of the importance and necessity of using the modern Ukrainian literary language in all spheres of public communication, to develop a high level of spelling competence.
