Abstract

In the modern world, Ukrainian society faces complex challenges and transformations, such as protecting the territorial integrity of Ukraine, forming a political nation, and increasing the role of one's own involvement and responsibility for the fate of one's state. The importance of forming a national-cultural identity is due to the need to understand and realize the national-cultural and civic values of the Ukrainian people, their historical memory, preservation of national authenticity and traditions. Education plays a key role in the formation of civic competence in the younger generation. The role of senior school is especially important as a stage of the educational process, where the value attitude of an individual towards society, the state and one's own role in it is formed and consolidated. Ukraine, as a country with a rich history and excellent cultural heritage, sets itself the task not only of imparting knowledge, but also of educating patriots devoted to their country. In this context, the study of factors affecting the formation of pupils' values, as well as the development of effective methods and strategies of patriotic education, are currently relevant tasks. In particular, language and fiction and non-fiction literature are important factors in the formation of civic competence of senior school pupils.
