Abstract
The article presents a retrospective analysis of textbook creation during the period ofependence of Ukraine. After the declaration of independence, textbooks of Soviet origin remained in the country, where Ukraine was considered geographically superficially, so there was a need to create Ukrainian textbooks that would have a Ukrainian content character. Since geography is an educational subject that provides knowledge that highlights the spatial relations and characteristics of the earth’s surface based on the balancing of nature and population, creating a textbook by which a new generation learns and develops is one of the fundamental issues of modern geography teaching methods. And in order to create an effective modern textbook, it is worth analysing the experience of previous generations. The article examines issues related to the improvement of textbooks through content and methodical apparatus. The author of the article analysed the first geography textbooks of independent Ukraine regarding the Ukrainian content, the development of spatial thinking and the importance of the subject of geography during the period of Russian aggression on the territory of Ukraine.
