Abstract

The paper presents theoretical and methodological analysis of the content, types and methods of forming environmental competency as a component in the structure of the global competence of students. The conceptual and categorical framework of the research is defined, in particular, the terms "competency", "global competence", "environmental competency", "educational project", and "environmental education" are considered. According to the regulations of the National Education Association of the USA, the term "global competence" is identified as the process of acquiring thorough knowledge and understanding of international processes, communication skills with people from different linguistic and cultural traditions, and the ability to learn quickly and navigate in the information space. Integrating academic courses or subjects, including literature, history, economics, mathematics, biology, and the arts, has been proven to provide powerful inquiry through which the world is interpreted. The Ukrainian and world experience in the formation of global competence of students, in particular environmental competence as its component, is studied. Project activity is described as an important tool for stimulating and developing the interest of trainees in environmental issues. Forms of project activity, types, structure of ecological projects, stages of their implementation, implementation scenarios are established. Five pedagogic approaches are identified to encompass a variety of methods and forms: critical reflection, systems thinking and analysis, interactive learning, creative thinking for future scenarios, collaborative learning. The role of the established content, forms and methods of formation of environmental competency as a component of global competence of students was substantiated for use in education and research work on environmental restoration and conservation. A general description of the content of knowledge, attitudes, skills and values that people need to be globally competent is shown to provide opportunities for identifying strategies for learning, teaching and assessing global competence.
