Abstract
The article includes results of many years of theoretical, methodological and practical research of the problem of value orientations of personality. Two areas of value research are highlighted: individually oriented and culturally oriented. Obstacles to understanding and studying values are presented. The work of G. Muensterberg, E. Spragner, M. Rokich, V. Gouve (direction of individually oriented values) and P. Henel, R. Inglehart, J. Hofstede, S. Schwartz (direction of culturally oriented values) on the problem of value orientations are described. The features of empirical study of the gifted students value system are highlighted. The typical features of the gifted students' value orientations system are compared with the student's. It is shown that for gifted students such values as: honesty, tolerance, love, beauty of nature and art, inner harmony, wisdom, as well as intellectual values and values of self-development are important. Interrelation of values with the level of intellectual development, with special abilities (artistic, musical, mathematical, linguistic) is described. The results of the gifted student’s values study and their relationship with gender are generalized. The values that the gifted person is ready to neglect in order to realize the values that are important to her are listed. It is shown that such values, in particular, are the values of health and safety, as well as the material benefits.
