Abstract
The purpose of this work is to analyze the system of training of military psychologists and periodization of its development. The novelty of this work lies in the content analysis of textbooks, dissertations, programs, articles on military psychology and the creation of a holistic study devoted to the periodization of the development of military psychology in Ukraine. Research methods. Problem-chronological and comparative research methods were used during the study. Research results. Military psychology, as a specialty, has been taught since the Soviet times. However, experts in this specialty were taught only in Moscow. In many cases, military psychology in the Soviet Union was an ideological science and was engaged in graduates of a political school. The independence of Ukraine has made new challenges to society. In the formation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine there was a need to prepare their own specialists. Research Institute and relevant departments at military educational institutions were created. In the period 1990-1999, the accumulation of materials and training of specialists took place. Scientific schools of military psychology were created. In the period 2000-2012 there was a deepening of the study of certain problems of military psychology of peacetime. Now Ukraine is experiencing the invasion of Russian troops into its territory. The full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine in 2022-2024 is a conflict of high intensity and the greatest conflict since the Second World War. The war in eastern Ukraine from 2014 to 24.02.2024 under the names Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and Joint Forces Operation (JFO) was a local conflict, which had a high intensity in 2014-2015. Psychologists have passed three stages. The first stage was dated 1991-2013. The second stage dated 2014-2021. The third stage began in 2022. Military psychology at the first stage met the needs of peacetime. Problems of morale, discipline and extraordinary relations were considered. For the first stage, the formation of a community of military psychologists was relevant. With regard to the second stage, Ukraine faced the war and its challenges. After the hot phase of the ATO (2014-2015) has come, it was time to summarize the experience of military psychologists in combat. Since 2016, the Conference "Military Psychology in War and Peace Mimters: Problems, Experience, Prospects" has been held. It was a significant 2017, when several textbooks on military psychology were published. In 2018-2021 a number of specialized theses were protected. Problems such as combat stress, rehabilitation of military, psychology of combat traumatization, prevention of mental disorders and individual mental disorders, influence of hostilities on families of servicemen were investigated. Specialized textbooks considered such important problems as psychology of combat stress, suicidal behavior, captivity psychology, special techniques for relieving stress, communication in military teams, prevention of mental injuries, psychological readiness for combat. Ukraine in 2022-2024 was faced with a new challenge-a full-scale invasion of Russian troops and the threat of the existence of the Ukrainian state itself. Nowadays, military psychologists are actively practicing in a high intensity conflict. This experience will be summarized after the conflict. During the post-period, military psychologists will face a significant number of mental disorders not only in the military but also in civilians. It is important to point out that in 2023, a study dedicated to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was issued. Ukraine will face the need for rehabilitation and adaptation to the peaceful conditions of a significant number of military. The full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine has been the largest military conflict in Europe since the Second World War and is similar to the Iran–Iraq War. It will be useful for Ukrainians to study the experience of Israel and Balkan countries.
