Abstract

The article reveals the life and scientific-pedagogical path of the innovative teacher and long-time director of the Derzhanyivka Secondary School in Nosivsky District, Chernihiv Region, Ivan Oleksandrovich Shelest (October 9, 1931 - September 18, 2001). It uncovers the history of the establishment and development of the educational institution. The focus is placed on the creative achievements of the teaching staff and the figures among the school's alumni. These include: Merited Journalist of Ukraine M.H. Budlyansky, Merited Artist of Ukraine O.V. Kakalo, writer and poet V.M. Bozhok, notable scientists in various fields L.A. Ostrovetsky, V.P. Postoy, O.F. Trukhan, Colonels of the Ukrainian Armed Forces M.H. Shevela and M.I. Shostak, Colonel of Justice V.F. Trukhan, and many other numerous graduates of the school. Thoughts are expressed regarding the future of modern rural education.
