Abstract

The presentation discusses the phenomenon of the skills gap in the economy, which significantly affects labor productivity and economic growth. It is noted that up to 25% of workers in developed countries and up to 60% in developing countries have a skills gap. The author points out the huge economic losses due to this phenomenon - up to 6% of labor productivity losses and $5 trillion of global GDP annually. The author discusses the situation in Ukraine, where the problem of the qualification gap is particularly relevant due to the insufficient employment rate of university graduates and low labor productivity compared to other countries. The article presents data on the wide coverage of higher education but the insufficient quality of graduates' qualification skills. Strategies for overcoming the skills gap, such as developing flexibility and adaptability, data and digital skills, training in new technologies, and the importance of cultural and social competence, are also discussed. It calls for the integration of these strategies to increase productivity and economic growth.
