Abstract

The presentation of the research visualizes the impact of global technological changes and threats related to the war in Ukraine on addressing the skills gap. It examines key factors that have caused skill mismatches, including the impact of COVID-19 and military actions in Ukraine. The analysis focuses on the categories of skills necessary for the modern labor market and ways to bridge this gap. Based on a comparative analysis of the skills gap issue, the following consequences are substantiated: unemployment and underemployment in positions that do not match the level of education attained; low productivity and work inefficiency, which affects business economic performance; individuals with mismatched skills may experience social exclusion and dissatisfaction with their situation, potentially leading to social conflicts and psychological trauma; delays in innovation and sustainable societal development; reduced national competitiveness in the global economic environment. Particular attention is given to the role of human capital and strategic approaches that can help mitigate negative consequences and facilitate adaptation to new conditions.
