Abstract
The article establishes that the integrated approach is extremely relevant in the construction of the content of school social science education, which is explained by the need to develop key civic competence in students. It was found that domestic education and pedagogy has accumulated significant experience in integrating the content of social science education. It is noted that periods of integration were replaced by periods of disintegration. It was established that in the 20th century attempts were made to group and unify social science material on an interdisciplinary basis around certain general ideas and attempts to develop appropriate programs and teaching aids. It was concluded that in the 20th century, school social science education was implemented both within a single integrated course and through individual subjects.
