Abstract

The monograph presents a theoretical analysis of cognitive approaches to personality development. The attention is focused on the functional mechanisms of cognitive processes, the disorders of cognitive development that can occur in children are described. The main characteristics of cognitive development in children of early, preschool, and school age are proposed, and possible indicators of atypical development of children from two months to twelve years are outlined. Barriers to education and participation of children with cognitive impairments (mental retardation, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disabilities, speech disorders, anxiety-depressive disorder) are outlined. Useful advice to specialists on the organization of the educational process of such children, based on the psychological and pedagogical typology of cognitive disorders, is provided. The monograph is addressed to students, postgraduates, teachers of higher education institutions, psychologists, specialists of inclusive and special education institutions.
