Abstract

The article states a significant increase in the role of natural sciences, which carry out scientific knowledge of nature and should contribute to the harmonious existence of human beings in the natural environment. In this regard, the problem of forming the professional competence of future specialists in natural sciences is becoming increasingly relevant. It has been established that the problem of forming the professional competence of applicants for higher natural science education has been insufficiently studied at the theoretical and practical levels, which led to the choice of the topic of the article. The purpose of the article is to define the essence of professional competence of future specialists in natural sciences as a pedagogical category based on generalization of different views of scientists. As it has been found out, the scientific literature offers different approaches to the interpretation of this concept, in particular as: an integrative formation, a complex quality that determines the ability of a specialist to effectively solve problem situations in professional activities; a set of motives, values, knowledge, skills, abilities, personal qualities that ensures high performance, etc. Based on the above, it is determined that the professional competence of specialists in natural sciences is an integrated quality of a personality that ensures the success of the organization and performance of professional activities in this field. This competence is a system of the following components-competences: key competences that should be formed in modern employees of any profile (for example, to work successfully in a team, to demonstrate leadership skills, etc.); basic competences that should be inherent in all specialists in natural sciences (to participate in the planning and implementation of natural science projects; to apply knowledge, demonstrate understanding of the main characteristics, processes, history and composition of nature; to collect, record and analyze natural science data using appropriate methods, technological and software tools in the field and laboratory, etc.); special (corresponding to the specific professional activity performed by a specialist, and therefore differing significantly among natural scientists of different profiles).
