Abstract

The paper considers the issue of equity in the European educational area in terms of inclusiveness (i.e. whether all students receive at least a minimum amount of good quality education) and fairness (i.e. whether student performance is largely independent of socio-economic background). It is stated that the challenge in terms of inclusion today is to overcome the gaps in the learning achievements of students from different social strata. This refers to the number of completed years of study, levels and types of qualifications, the list of acquired competences, test results, etc. The smaller the percentage of students with low academic performance and the smaller the difference in performance between students with low and high academic performance, the more inclusive the school is. It is concluded that for Ukraine, in the context of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which began on 24 February 2022, the problem of equity in general secondary education has become particularly relevant. This is the aspect of inclusion, when the destruction of infrastructure, educational environment, displacement of students and teachers within the country and abroad as a result of bombing, hostilities, and occupation of part of the territory makes it difficult to ensure that students master educational standards.
