Abstract
Тhe complex of publications of B. Hrinchenko the famous Ukrainian writer, publicist, teacher, public figure in the columns of the Ukrainian daily newspaper «Public Opinion (Hromadska Dumka)» (1905-1906) is analyzed in article. The purpose of the article is to determine the thematic range and informational potential of the writer's creative work, published in a newspaper for the study of the social and political life of Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century and the author's activities as a representative of his era. The relevance of the article is determined by the need for a comprehensive study of the creative heritage of representatives of the Ukrainian national movement of the beginning of the 20th century. The novelty of the publication is caused by the insufficient level of study of the problem of B. Hrinchenko's cooperation with the Ukrainian newspaper «Public Opinion (Hromadska Dumka)». The article is based on the principles of objectivity and systematic historicism. General scientific, historical and source studies methods: analytical, synthetic, logical, heuristic, critical, archeographical and others. are applied. Тhe thematic range, content and source value of B. Hrinchenko's publications are studied in article. The level of the informational potential of these sources for the study of the peculiarities of the social, political and cultural life of Ukraine, the conditions for the development of the Ukrainian national movement are determined. The main problems that were in the focus of the author's attention are described. The circle of journalistic interests, pedagogical, socio-political views and directions of public activity of B. Hrinchenko are discovered. The conclusions summarize the level of informational potential of the writer's creative heritage in the newspaper «Public Opinion (Hromadska Dumka)» as a component of the source base for researching the history of the Ukrainian national movement, public and political life of Ukraine, the formation of the Ukrainian education system at the beginning of the 20th century, social challenges of 1905-1906, etc. The source value of the set of publications for the study of social and political activity and worldview of the author as a participant and witness of important events of his time is determined.
