Abstract
The article carries out a theoretical analysis of an underdeveloped aspect of Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi’s pedagogical heritage – epistolary as a kind of method of addressing the reader, in which a wide range of issues are raised. The epistolary form of addressing the reader in the pedagogical works of V. Sukhomlynskyi is characterized as a type of micro-historical approach, which is focused on the personal interpretation of the problem and significantly enriches the understanding of the teacher’s educational system. It was revealed that his addressees were officials, teachers, like-minded colleagues, opponents, parents, children, etc. It was established that the purpose of using the epistolary method when writing pedagogical works was the desire for a constant dialogue with the reader to receive feedback and to strengthen the emotional educational impact. It was found that the above-mentioned method became an extremely effective tool for V. Sukhomlynskyi’s translation of new ideas and views on education and upbringing. Educational works that most vividly represent the letter as a form of addressing the reader are singled out, primarily in such works as «Letters to a Son», «Letters to a Daughter», «Letter on Pedagogical Ethics», etc. The conclusion is made about the importance of such research approaches, which provide an opportunity to comprehensively analyze the pedagogical ideas, experience, and personality of Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi himself. It was found that the epistolary heritage of the teacher is an integral part of his creativity, contains many original and valuable ideas, but remains insufficiently studied, under-researched and needs further consideration and analysis. The study of letters as a part of a pedagogical text should be the identified as a new form of disclosure of pedagogical biography – epistolary, which includes a purposeful process of searching, selecting and analyzing the content of letters, through which the personality of V. Sukhomlynskyi, his pedagogical views and approaches, the system of his priorities are revealed, attitudes and values, the time in which he lived is reflected, and pedagogical ideas that are still relevant are emphasized.
