Abstract
The article is devoted to the topical issues of assistance and protection of children in the context of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine from the standpoint of historical and pedagogical approach. The author reveals the experience of the past, which has preserved useful and fruitful ideas that are consonant with the current unreflected problems that have not yet become the achievement of public consciousness. The emergence of the term “medical pedagogy” (Germany, 1861) as one that combines medical knowledge with pedagogy aimed at helping children with physical, intellectual and social problems is considered in the historical and pedagogical context. It is noted that during the twentieth century, medical pedagogy was transformed into defectology/special pedagogy, separating from general pedagogy. At the end of the same century, it gradually drifted towards the humanization and democratization of the organization of life and education of children with disabilities. The article points and briefly describes the outstanding personalities who were at the beginning of these processes: R. Steiner, Janusz Korczak, M. Montessori, K. Galligan. The main attention is paid to the disclosure and argumentation of Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi’s contribution to the education and upbringing of “another” children - from the use of the term "protective education” as preservation of the child’s psyche from anxiety and aggression of the surrounding world to the development of methods and means of their support. The article mentions the following: individual approach, meeting vital needs, development of maternal and paternal pedagogy, creating an atmosphere of friendliness and support, and care. The methods proposed by the teacher are described: walks in nature, School under the Blue Sky, music, drawing, literary creativity, etc. It is found that a separate theme in the teacher's work is moral and ethical discussions on life and death, which are of particular importance today. It is concluded that it is important to include the legacy of V. Sukhomlynskyi as part of a comprehensive approach to the protection and support of children in modern traumatic conditions.
